BIOGRAPHY

Mariana Loureiro Duarte is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication at the °µÍøTV. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Public Relations, a specialization in Strategic Business Management, and a master’s degree in Social Sciences.

Before joining USF, Mariana served as Head of the Press and Strategic Information Unit for the South, Southeast, and Central-West regions of the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares), the federal network that manages university hospitals throughout Brazil. In this leadership role, she coordinated strategic communication, institutional communication, media relations, and crisis communication across a large and complex public healthcare system.

Her master’s research examined political discourse in Brazilian television during an electoral period, reflecting her longstanding interest in the relationship between media, communication, and public discourse. Most recently, coordinating communication efforts during the catastrophic floods that struck Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2024 reinforced her commitment to understanding how organizations communicate, respond, and build resilience in the face of disasters and other complex crises.
