Madeline C獺mara Betancourt holds a PhD in Spanish Philology from NY Stony Brook University. She is currently a professor of Latin American literature at the University of South Florida, and has also taught at the University of Havana at UNAM in Mexico City and San Diego State University, California.
She has received, among other awards, The Rockefeller Fellowship in Humanities at Florida International University, and the Fulbright Scholarship. Her recent research is focused on the Spanish philosopher Mar穩a Zambrano.
She has published two anthologies on Zambrano with the publishing house Juan de la Cuesta in the United States: Mar穩a Zambrano: Words for the World (2011) and Mar穩a Zambrano, between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean (2015).
Dr. C獺mara is a leading scholar in the field of Cuban Studies where she has published various books, Cuban Women Writers: Imagining a Matria (NY: Palgrave, 2008), La memoria hechizada (Barcelona: Icaria, 2002) La letra rebelde: estudios de escritoras cubanas (Miami: Universal, 2002), Cuba: The Ellusive Nation (University of Gainesville, Florida, 2000) Vocaci籀n de Casandra (NY: Peter Lang: 2000) and Cuentos Cubanos Contempor獺neos (Xalapa: Editorial Veracruzana, 1997) besides numerous articles and essays.
