What is the Master of Science in Data Intelligence at USF?
The MS in Data Intelligence is a graduate program focused on data analytics, AI, machine
learning, and data-driven decision-making. Students learn to collect, analyze, visualize,
and apply data insights to solve real business and organizational problems.
Why should I earn a Master’s Degree in Data Intelligence?

well as students from a STEM background wanting to earn an engineering degree in data
intelligence.

Admission and Requirements
What are the admission requirements for the MS in Data Intelligence program?
Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and meet minimum GRE requirements,
including an Analytical Writing score of 3.0 or higher, a combined Quantitative and
Verbal score of at least 300, and a Quantitative score of 156 or above. Applicants
should also possess an adequate background in mathematics and computer programming.
International applicants must hold the equivalent undergraduate and/or graduate degrees

Do I need a background in computer science or data analytics to apply?
A bachelor’s degree in STEM with basic foundations in calculus, statistics and computer
programming is required to apply, as well as hands-on computer programming experience.
My background is not in engineering or mathematics/statistics. Can I still apply for
the MSDI degree?
Applicants without a background in engineering or mathematics may need more preparation
for MSDI. USF offers a fully online, 15-credit-hour designed for people without technical experience looking to switch career paths.

Is the GRE required for admission?
GRE requirements vary by term and applicant profile. A GRE waiver may apply to you,
depending upon your background and situation. Check the program admission page for
current policy, or to see if you qualify for a waiver.
When are application deadlines?
Deadlines are set for Fall and Spring semesters.
- The Fall application deadline is June 1 of that calendar year (for example, if you would like to start your classes in Fall 2026, then you must submit your application by June 1, 2026).
- The Spring application deadline is October 15 of the previous calendar year (for example, if you would like to start your classes
in Spring 2027, then you must submit your application by October 15, 2026).
Can the department evaluate my chances of getting admitted before I submit an official
application?
No. The department will only evaluate official applications submitted through the
USF Office of Admissions. However, the online is available to help make the application process smoother by answering your questions
and checking that all of your documents are ready to submit if you are applying to
the online version of the program. Many future students find this guidance helpful
when applying to a master's degree program.

etc.)?
Documents should be attached to your online application. Please do not email/mail
your documents to the department.

Financial documents are not required at the time of application but might be needed

Program Format
Is the Data Intelligence program available online or on-campus?
This program is offered fully online/primarily distance learning (PD) and in person,
as well as part-time and full-time. The classes offered in PD mode may require students
to be on campus for instructor proctored quizzes/exams and group activities. However,
students away from campus may use proctoring services (upon USF approval) available
at their location minimizing their need to appear in-person.
How long does it take to complete the degree?
Finish in as little as one year full-time, or two to three years part-time.
How many credit hours are required?
30 credit hours.
What courses will I take in the program?
Coursework includes data mining, object-oriented programming, project management,

Is work experience required?
Work experience is not required, but professional background in STEM, business, tech,
mathematics, analytics or other computer science focuses can strengthen an application.
Can I work full-time while completing this program?
Many courses are designed with flexibility to support working professionals. Choosing
to be enrolled in the online version of the program may allow for a higher level of
flexibility by avoiding drives to campus while still learning the same program content.
Does USF offer career support for Data Intelligence students?

Outcomes and Competencies
What skills will I gain in this program?
Students develop expertise in data mining, object-oriented programming, project management,

students will submit an academic portfolio, which showcases main course projects and
competencies, research experience (including conference presentations and publications),
industry/internship experience, extracurricular activities (professional organizations/societies,
